Reading Room Update

Mood Board & Inspiration

Do you ever just want to completely re-design a space? Well, I do, all the time. During one of my lunch breaks a few weeks ago I decided to follow that little spark and run out and grab a bucket of paint. This little impulsive decision lead me to re-paint our second living room in a matter of 5 hours (total work time, across 2 days so the first coat could dry overnight).

Our house is painted this very yellow-beige throughout, and I just don’t love. I have recently been gravitating to more color, but decided for this space, to give myself a blank canvas. I decided on a bright coat of Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee. This way I would have all the freedom to integrate color with the furniture and art.

Take a peek at what this space used to be.

This small living room is right off of our kitchen and connects to a small bathroom and our bedroom. This space has had many evolutions over the past year we’ve been living here and is now undergoing its third transformation. At one point this was our main living room where we would watch TV and lounge in the evenings. During the summer when it was too hot to work upstairs, this also functioned as my home office (turns out no A/C in California is as bad as it sounds). So, long story short, this space eventually just became a pass-through zone, and basically just functioned as a hallway. I was reading an article in AD recently which talked about the power of design in creating spaces you want to spend time in. Clearly, the way I had designed this space, wasn’t inspiring us to spend any time here. So, here I am now, re-imagining what this space could be.

Turns out one $45 can of paint goes a long way in making a space feel new again. I love how bright and open this room now feels. I chose to match our ceiling color so the entire space would feel seamless.

Entryway Update

I scored this vintage wooden table on fb marketplace and am so happy with the way this little entryway moment turned out.

Eventually, I might change out the art in these frames, but for now, I’m repurposing artwork I had in the guest bedroom which didn’t get much attention. Feels much more intentional in this little nook.

Well, that’s all for now, stay tuned for more updates soon!
